Reading Challenge- The Two Towers

This is the second book in the Lord of the Rings series. This book is divided into 2 parts, the first about the remainder of the fellowship (of the ring), and the second about Frodo, Sam, and Sméagol/Gollum( read The Hobbit and Book 1) Anyways, Aragon, Legolas, and Gimli finds Boromir’s dead body, slain by many orc-arrows. He says that he was tempted by the ring, and tried to take it from Frodo by force, but failed. With a heavy heart, the companions bury Boromir, and then learn that Merry and Pippin have been captured by orcs, and the book shifts to them. They have been captured and are about to be taken to Saruman, but the Riders of Rohan, a great city, attack the orc camp and Merry and Pippin find themselves in the company of Treebeard the ent. Ents are giant tree-like things, and he and all the ents are angry at Saruman for burning ents to fuel his power, and then calls a war council. The rest of the company meets Gandalf in the forests, but he has become Gandalf ‘the white’ now. The 4 ride to Rohan, and after a short discussion, the army of Rohan agrees to go to the aid of Gondor, the border between Isengard and Mordor. Both peoples, Ents and Rohan, prepare for full war against the darkness. In the other part of the book ( there is still some stuff between) Sam and Frodo cross treacherous land, but then Gollum is upon them, and after a brief fight, Frodo returns Gollum to his long dormant ‘Sméagol’ stage, and he swears upon his precious, the ring, to help them. The unlikely trio cross dangerous ground and enemy infested-land to destroy the ring, but what are Sméagol/Gollum’s true intentions, and does he still want his ‘precious’. And can the ents and the men of Rohan achieve a victory against great evil? This book is a little ‘bland’ in taste to me. It doesn’t have much action or interest, but it is still a good book. 6.910
