Reading Challenge- Castaways of the Flying Dutchman

This is a very exciting book. It starts when a captain named Vanderecken is promised a delivery of emeralds if he sails to Cape Horn to receive a shipment. Meanwhile, a mute boy named Ben jumps into the sea to escape his miserable life, however, he is picked up by Vanderecken’ crew, and the cook, Petros, claims him as a kitchen boy. His job is hard, but when they anchor in Denmark he picks up a dog, and he calls him Ned. He finds out about a revolution, but the captain puts it down, and he becomes guard to the captain, and also cook. When he tries to sail around Terra de Fugal, the place where 3 oceans meet, Vanderecken, and his ship, The Flying Dutchman is pushed back and Vanderecken is very very noit. After several tries, most crewmembers a planning to revolt against Vanderecken to live, but then Vanderecken is thoroughly frustrated and starts cursing the lord. An angel comes down from the heavens, and as for punishment Vanderecken and his crew are doomed to sail the seas for eternity, and everybody aboard is cursed. However, the angel senses 2 beings with pure souls, Ben and Ned, and sets them free, and also gives Ben the ability to speak in every language, and gives Ned the power to understand speech, and talk to Ben telepathically. They are found on the shore by a farmer, and he takes them in. However, 3 years later, he dies trying to save the animals, and the angel gives them another message-they must move on at the sound of a bell. The next day, they hear a bell, and move on. around 200 years later, in 1823, the 2 arrive in the British town of Chapervale. They find out that the town is about to be destroyed to make way for a mine by 2 greedy buissness people- Maud Bowe and Obidiah Smithers. Ben protects an old lady, Winne Winn, from a gang whose leader is Obidiah’s son, and he I sinvited to stay with her because of that. H eten finds out that Winne is very resistant to the destruction, and with a devoted band of followers, they try to find out the clues of the 4 saints to prove the Winn family’s ancient claim to the land to save Chapervale. I like this book, it is very interesting, but in it’s middle it gets a bit boring. 7/10
