Northern Lights

This book is about a girl named Lyra that lives in Oxford. When she goes to explore the place she goes to the retirement room and hides inside the closet, she sees "the master" pour some powder into a glass of wine which she thinks is poison meant for Lord Asriel her uncle. When Lord Asriel goes into the room he is about to drink the wine but then she knocks the glass out of his hand and tells him that it's poison so he knocks down the whole bottle and tells her to hide in the closet. She does what she is told and finds out about the Aurora (northern lights) and dust (elementrey particals). One day her friend Roger, the kitchen boy, dissapears she thinks that the 'gobblers' took him. At a dinner party she meets a woman called Mrs Coulter, the master offers her if she wanted to live with mrs coulter, she said yes.The night before she leaves the master gives her an athleiometer(a compas) . When she gets there at first she loves it then she feels trapped there. She escapes the house while they were having a party and almost gets kidnapped by these people she thought was gobblers, a person saves her and they fly to this place where she tells them all about the dust and the gobblers. She also figures out that her real mom and dad are Mrs Coulter and Lord Asriel and that he was captured and imprisoned by the armored bears. You have to read the book to find out what happens next and if she saves Roger or Lord Asriel or maybe both...
