This book is about New York in 1776 when it was American Independence.

There was a girl who was called Isabel 13 years old girl. She had a sister Ruth. They were slaves. They were sold to a malicious New York city couple who treated them horribly. They beat them up and locked them up too. Isabel likes to talk to ghosts just before the sun rises. This book is about Isabel and her sister Ruth fighting for freedom. This book is called "Chain" because Isabel and Ruth are trying to break the chains that are holding her from the freedom. I felt sad and angry whenever something bad happened to Isabel and Ruth. After reading this book I felt that the life is not fair. Isabel and Ruth are only a child, weak girls and the life is too tought for them.
