Leafpool keeps the secret bit of fur to herself, but shows Firestar the deathly wound. The clan immediately blames Windclan, but after a patrol goes there, they found out that Sol had been near there recently, and the clan sways to him.
Meanwhile, Jayfeather is determined to discover his real parents. Hollyleaf is astounded at the clans disloyalty to the warrior code, and Lionblaze is meeting with the cat he thought to be his grandfather, Tigerstar.
Brambleclaw, still thinking that the three are his children, is worried about Lionblaze, because Ashfur was his mentor. Lionblaze knew that his mentor had never felt for him as much as most mentors bond, and now he knows why, but he has to keep the secret of his kin.
Firestar sends Birchfall, Brambleclaw, Brackenfur, Hazeltail, Hollyleaf, and Lionblaze to the Sun-Drown-Place to find Sol, and on the way there, there are some bumps in the road, such as Hazeltail injuring her nose, and Birchfall nearly drowned.
Hazeltail meets her father for the first time, since she was a kit, and Smokey(her father) is so proud of his daughter. Hollyleaf feels sad, because she knows that even though Brambleclaw still feels like that towards her, he was not ever her true father.
They change course, once they realize the Sol went to a twoleg place and not sun-drown-place. They meet a band of Loners who Sol had been with, and they hated him as much as the clans because of what he did to them(You will have to read it to find out).
After that they go to the other side of twoleg place, and meet Purdy, who helped the cats from the forest to the Sun-drown-place, in "The New Prophecy." and Sol is with him. The patrol takes both of them back to Thunderclan.
Back at camp, Lionblaze was relaxing with Honeyfern and Berrynose, two young cats that were in love, and it showed a soft side of the abnoxious warrior. Millie's kits were playing, now fully recovered from the sickness of leaf-fall, when a snake comes. Lionblaze sees it, but Honeyfern is quicker, and she saves the kits from it, but the poisonous viper bit her, and there was nothing Leafpool could do to save her. Berrynose was sweet to her, though he grieved deeply for the cat who would be his mate. He told her she would be honored in Starclan, for saving a kit.
At the time of the three's birth, Jayfeather found out that Leafpool had accidently mixed a herb with Mousefur's tansy. Littlecloud, the Shadowclan medicine cat, tells him it is parsely, a herb for stopping queen's milk, if their kits die. Jayfeather realizes that Leafpool was their mother, and Yellowfang sends him a sign in a dream, a crow's feather. Shortly before that, Leafpool told Hollyleaf about her true parents. Hollyleaf was angry at her true mother, for breaking the warrior code twice by having her and her siblings, but Lionblaze and Jayfeather don't mind so much, and are just surprised.
At the end, there is another gathering. Hollyleaf speaks up in front of everyone, and tells them who her true parents were. Cinderheart, wise for her young age, tells her that it was a mistake, and that no good could ever come from it, and Hollyleaf realizes just what she did. She runs away, and her brothers follow her, then she traps herself under a crash of falling rocks, to save her from all her troubles. Jayfeather suddenly realizes that there weren't 3 anymore, because Hollyleaf was now dead, but Lionblaze is astounded that his brother could even think of that, because their sister just died!
At the very end, Whitewing gives birth to two kits; Dovekit and Ivykit, and she was a distant relative to Firestar. Jayfeather is relieved, because one of these 2 would be the third in the prophecy.
