Storm Thief is set in a alternate universe, where storms changes peoples lives. Men could become women, boys could become girls, your liver could turn to glass or stone, anything oculd happen. 1 boy's life changed. The Storm took away his breath. That boy is called Rail. Now, wearing a respirator, he is a thief, along with a runaway called Moa. They serve Anya Janca, the Queen Thief. They steal a device, which allowed them to create portals to anywhere they wanted! However, they took it without Anya Janca's knowledege, and they flee. Anya Janca aends a biy called Finch after them.
Meanwhile, in the upper class part of the city, a toymaker called Gareth, finds a Golem(Vago), which flew in from the window. Vago, a half human, half machine, helps Gareth, until he breaks a Jewelled Beatle, which causes him to run away. He then bumps into Moa, and Rail, and together they become friends. In the city, there are monsters called the Revenant, Vago turns out to be a Revenant killer, having precise calculation mechanisms.
The rest of the story is exciting, so I won't spoil it.
